MYTH BUSTER: Some people think that matcha tastes grassy and not very nice. But if it’s made right, the flavour is lovely! If it tastes bitter, this is just because it has been burnt by too-hot water. Follow our step-by-step instructions to make sure you can enjoy a perfect mug of matcha every time! It's important to also choose the highest quality matcha, which is why our customers rave about our pure grade matcha & flavoured matcha.

What tools do I need?

To make the perfect matcha, there are two tools you really need: a matcha spoon (measuring half a tsp) & a whisk.

matcha tools including whisk, bowl and spoon

Our Perfect Matcha Spoon is the essential matcha tea tool. Measuring out the equivalent of 1/2 tsp, just the right amount of Matcha for your perfect cup, it makes brewing up your favourite Bird & Blend Matcha flavour simple.

Our Bamboo Matcha Whisk is a traditional matcha whisk with 100 prongs, perfectly designed to aerate & whisk your matcha to perfection when used in a W shape.

You could also use a battery-powered tool such as our Handheld Milk & Matcha Frother; we particularly like to use this when preparing a matcha latte because it gives your milk a frothy, creamy finish.

You’ll see in some of our recipes, including those from our much-loved drinks menu in-store, use syrups. These can really enhance the flavour of your matcha drink, but aren’t essential - our matcha blends are packed with delicious flavour as they are. We use Sweetbird syrups in store, explore our range here.
