For the smoky flavour - travelling tea merchants used to transport tea all the way across Russia, smoky teas were discovered after the campfire smoke would infuse into the tea leaves at night. Nowadays it's not campfire smoke, & much more controlled, but the story behind the smoky flavours inspire us still.

"This one was a surprise hit. I added it to basket as a 'may as well give it a go' pick. I really wasnt sure what to expect as it was one of my early orders from bird and blend. It has a pleasant smoky start followed by the flavour of black tea and toffee. Its a perfect drink for sipping when the leaves are crunchy and you are wrapped in your favourite jumper. It's still a very nice tea that deserves its place on the tea shelf, but it doesn't quite carry the strength of the smoke or caramel like it used to- not enough that I won't repurchase, but certainly a shame given how wonderful it was with the stronger notes. "I was expecting a lovely sweet toffee smell with a hint of smokiness, perfect for a cosy autumn evening. Unfortunately, my nose had other ideas🥲 The smell immediately transported me back to the JORVIK Viking Centre in York, where I once visited and nearly lost the will to live. Now, every time I open the packet, I'm reminded of that experience, and I genuinely cannot unsmell it! I'm sure it's lovely if you don't have this very specific historical trauma, but sadly, my brain has made other associations 🫠 Lovely idea, just not quite the cosy toffee experience I was hoping for!"
